The pond on the west side is the entrance to the Molnár János Cave. This underground cave is filled with geothermal water and is known to some divers. The deepest point reaches 320 feet, and the total length of the surveyed section is 3.4 miles. It’s surprising that, despite being one of the world’s largest geothermal caves, it’s tucked away quietly in a corner of the city. During the Ottoman Empire, there was a gunpowder factory here that used the abundant thermal water as a power source, and the ruins of that factory remain around the pond. Distinct Sulfur Smell The Lukács Thermal Bath is a spa facility located across the street from the Molnár János Cave. There is evidence that the Knights of St. John have been using the thermal water in this area since the 12th century. During the Ottoman Empire era, its primary use was as a power source for the gunpowder factory mentioned above. It is said to have begun operating as a spa hotel in the 1880s. With its many additions over the years, Rudas Thermal Bath displays such a variety of features that it’s hard to believe it’s the same facility. Turkish baths have designated days for men only and women only. The Turkish Bath Zone: Left Unchanged The Rudas Thermal Bath is located on the banks of the Danube, at the foot of Gellért Hill, a famous tourist attraction. Since it's right in front of the Rudas Gyógyfürdő tram stop, you won't miss it. At the foot of the Elisabeth Bridge, there was a shop where you could drink thermal water. It's an indoor facility; there is a fee, and they'll fill your bottles with the water. Drinking the spring water was—and still is—an important aspect of the hot springs. A long, narrow building running north to south, located beneath the Liberty Statue on the Gellért Hill. The sections on either side of the yellow swimming pool building, which was constructed in 1896, are part of the same facility, but they look like completely different structures. At the southern end is a modern rooftop area that was added in 2014. The highlight is the Turkish bath at the northern end. A hot spring resort widely regarded as the largest in Europe. If you think of it more as a tourist attraction than a place to relax, it’s definitely worth a visit. Like a Massive Royal Palace In business since 1913. The oldest thermal spa in the Pest district on the east bank of the Danube, and the largest thermal spa facility in Europe. The Széchenyi Thermal Bath is right outside the Széchenyi fürdő station on Metro Line 1. It is also the world’s oldest electrically powered subway system and the only subway system listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. That huge, yellow, palace-like building is it. There are three entrances, and since each one serves a different purpose, it’s easy to get confused. At the small entrance closest to the station, only same-day tickets are sold. If you enter from here, you won't be able to reserve a private cabin, and you'll have to use the coed lockers (plus private changing rooms). The main entrance, which faces the south garden, is for guests who purchased Fast Track tickets online. As you’d expect from having to pay an extra fee for the priority admission, the luxury really stood out. I used the entrance on the north side, near the zoo and the circus. A bathhouse from the Ottoman Empire era, hidden away within a massive hospital. Because of its location, it has become something of a hidden gem. Corner of Medical Facility The Veli Bej Bath, located on the banks of the Danube, is right behind the Lukács Baths, and you’d be hard-pressed to realize it is a spa facility. A 22-minute walk from Batthyány tér Station on Metro Line 2, or a 10-minute walk from the Margit híd, budai hídfő tram stop. Although there is a café on the glass-walled first floor, this is essentially part of a medical facility. The rate was 6,700 HUF for a 3-hour session (as of this writing). Reservations are not accepted; you must pay the fee at the ticket counter on the day of your visit. Please note that the facility is closed from noon to 3:00 p.m. every day. Children under the age of 14 are not permitted to use this. After changing into your swimsuit in the separate men’s and women’s changing rooms, head through the outdoor area and back into the indoor bathhouse. The bathhouse was located in a courtyard-like area surrounded by the hospital buildings. This Turkish-style cupola! A white-sand beach with hot springs. It is a unique walk-in spa facility nestled in the mountains of Idaho. Secluded Location Head north on State Route 55; it’s a little over a two-hour drive from Boise. Just before the village of Donnelly, turn onto the dirt road heading away from Cascade Lake. Although road conditions were not bad, four-wheel-drive vehicles are strongly recommended during the winter. Located in a secluded area. It's a short walk from the parking lot. Walk through the small yurt-like office to enter the facility. Closed on Tuesdays. Hours: 12:00 PM–8:00 PM. Please note that children must leave by 4:00 PM. Adults 18 and older only on Thursdays. It is a walk-in spa facility that does not require reservations. Clothing is required. The men's and women's changing rooms were also yurts. Although the interior wasn't very spacious, it was clean and comfortable. Use the key you received at the office to access the valuables locker. White Sand Beach Resort The soaking area is entirely outdoors and consists of six pools. The design takes advantage of the gentle slope to allow hot water to flow down through these pools in sequence. The water temp of the top pools had reached 111 degrees F. A distinct sulfur scent, a thoroughly warming temperature, picturesque scenery, and easy access. It is one of Canada's finest undeveloped hot springs in every respect. Watch Out for Forestry Trucks Despite being connected by land to the United States, which is full of wild hot springs, Canada doesn't seem to have nearly as many. There is so much untouched wilderness that, while wild hot springs exist, they may be inaccessible to humans. Lussier Hot Springs is an undeveloped hot spring located a 45-minute drive southeast of Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. The last 17 km were on dirt roads, but the road surface was in good condition. On dirt roads where large logging trucks have priority, caution is required when passing. Lussier Hot Springs, located within Whiteswan Lake State Park, features a parking lot and pit toilets. No usage fees apply. From the parking lot, it's just a gentle 150-meter slope down. Valley View Hot Springs - Hot Springs in Colorado

A unique hot spring facility operated by the non-profit organization, Orient Land Trust. Hot springs suitable for soaking are scattered throughout the vast land. Unique Rules Valley View Hot Springs is located east of Joyful Journey Hot Springs along State Route 17. A dirt road stretching straight toward the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It also leads to the Orient Mine, an iron ore mine that opened in 1880 and closed in 1932. At the foot of the mountain, on a slightly elevated spot, there was a gate. Get out of the car here and check in. Orient Land Trust, the nonprofit organization operating Valley View Hot Springs, has introduced unique rules rarely seen at typical spa facilities, so advance preparation is necessary. Walk-ins are $20.00, overnight stays are $40.00 (at the time of writing). Due to strict daily guest limits, advance phone reservations are required. For lodging, the pricing structure is complex. Various lodging options, from campgrounds to cabins, are available at separate rates. Due to visitor limits for nature conservation, summer reservations may be fully booked well in advance. Non-members can only make reservations up to 24 hours in advance, so paying a donation to Orient Land Trust to become a member is practically necessary. The geothermal water flows freely right in front of the resort facility. The turquoise-blue water was truly impressive. Indoor Bathrooms Are for Viewing Only If you're staying at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, these wild hot springs are within walking distance. Incidentally, I'm not quite sure what the official name of this wild hot springs is. Cross the road near the lodge's main entrance and look up the hill—you'll spot the place right away. There were sign, and a walking path to the wild hot springs had been maintained. The symbolic rectangular building served as a landmark. The window frames of the three windows had been turned into flower beds. The trail wound its way around the building. This stone structure is said to have been added later atop baths used by the indigenous people. Because of that, the drainage was leaking out from the bottom. Three bathrooms arranged at equal intervals. These bathrooms are designated as historic sites and are open for viewing only. That said, it's effectively open to come and go as you please. The water in two of the tubs had completely stagnated, but the remaining one was still in a good condition. Although algae had grown around the tub, the inside was surprisingly clean, suggesting a previous guest had just cleaned it. Water temp 106 degrees F, the perfect temperature. Could such a beautiful place truly exist? Driven by curiosity, this hot springs propelled me all the way to Canada. Beware of Mudslides and Bears The official name of this hot springs is unclear, but its photogenic pictures are circulating online. Where on earth are they? First, let's start by parking the car in the RV park’s parking lot at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. From the parking lot, pass by the lodge and head toward the day-use pool. Along the way, there was a large sign reading “Natural Hot Pools,” but it was clearly referring to the pool facility. Descend the slope on the left just before the pool entrance and cross the bridge over the deep valley. Across the river was an RV park, where many luxury camping trailers could be seen. I was wandering around, unable to find the natural hot springs, when signs reading CLOSED and BEAR IN AREA caught my eye. It definitely looked like it didn't want anyone to come in. It didn't seem to be off-limits, though. An Inconvenient Truth I walked a little further and saw a hiking trail sign, which put my mind at ease. The trail continued, passing under the bridge I had just crossed. After walking for a while, the trail had washed away, forcing me to walk along the riverbed with its low water level. In 2023, Canada's largest natural hot spring resort was acquired by the Aldesta Hotel Group. It's also an ideal base for exploring the wild hot springs within walking distance. Massive Resort Facility Fairmont Hot Springs in British Columbia is a 3.5-hour drive from Calgary, Alberta, and a 2-hour drive from Banff. From the United States, it's a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Bonner's Ferry, Idaho. The largest and virtually only employer in Fairmont Hot Springs, which lends its name to the community, is naturally the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. This massive commercial complex encompasses a lodge with 151 guest rooms as well as cottages, a 190-site RV park, seven food and beverage outlets, three golf courses, a ski hill, and every other imaginable facility. Beginning operations as the Fairmont Hotel Springs in the early 1900s, it has changed ownership multiple times and continues to operate today. In 2023, it became part of the Vancouver-based Aldesta Hotels & Resorts. Aldesta is also the owner of Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa, also located in British Columbia. Having chosen an adjacent lodge with a simple kitchen, I promptly began exploring the resort. In a corner of the main lodge, I discovered indoor pools reserved exclusively for guests. Sufficiently large pools and an elegant geothermal waterfall. This place is like the Rolls-Royce of wild hot springs. Pete Creek Hot Springs Along the Middle Fork Boise River, there are countless wild hot springs, and naturally, not all of them are conveniently located just before the river. Sometimes, like Pete Creek (Vaughn) Hot Springs, it can be difficult to reach a destination that's right before your eyes. From late August to early October when the river's water level drops, it seems possible to cross on foot, but during my visit the water level was somewhat dangerous. I contented myself with merely gazing at the geothermal waterfall where steam rose. Curtain-like Waterfall Loftus Hot Springs was located six minutes down the road from the Pete Creek Hot Springs, following the Middle Fork Boise River. From the state capital of Boise, it's a 2-hour and 15-minute drive via Arrow Rock Dam. Access is available year-round, but winter conditions can be extremely dangerous. Across the road, on the opposite side of the river, there was a large parking area. From there, just a few seconds up the hill, I discovered two pools. The upper pool was a massive one that could easily hold twenty people. The pool, dammed by rocks and earthen walls, was elegantly draped with cascading geothermal water. A hot spring spa facility located within a national park. It has a historical connection with the famous French sparkling water, Perrier. A Richly International History Radium Hot Springs in British Columbia is located within Kootenay National Park, one of the seven parks that make up the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within Canada, it's a drive of about three hours from Calgary, Alberta, and about an hour and a half from Banff. From the United States, it's a three-hour drive from Bonners Ferry, Idaho. The facility is located in a valley 2 miles northeast of the village of the same name. The hot springs, said to have been used by the indigenous Kutenai people, may have been repeatedly passed by white settlers without notice due to their nearly odorless features. In 1890, a British settler purchased land around the hot springs from the state government, but due to its remote location, it appears to have been left undeveloped for some time. Full-scale development began after 1911, when the government started improving the surrounding roads. In 1914, a company named The Radium Natural Springs Syndicate Ltd was established, with British industrialist St. John Harmsworth as one of its principal investors. Harmsworth was known for his investment in the Perrier Springs in France and the success of his bottled mineral water business.
