One of the most remote spa resorts in California.
When visiting wild hot springs, it is important to find clean water.
Small Outdoor Pool
Mono Hot Springs Resort is located deep in the Sierra Nevada mountains, halfway between Yosemite National Park and Kings Canyon National Park.

Due to road closures during the winter, the facility is only open from May 23 to October 23 every year.

It can only be reached from the west side of the mountain range, and the nearest major city is Fresno.
It's a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Fresno.

Beyond Huntington Lake, the road becomes quite narrow and rough.

There are records of Native Americans of the Mono tribe using these hot springs for their health benefits in the 19th century.

Before World War II, many Japanese Americans stayed near Mono Hot Springs during the summer because the quality of the water was similar to that of hot springs in Japan.

The resort was started in 1935 by a family of builders from the Fresno area who obtained permission from the Forest Service.

Today's resort is also operated differently from the Forest Service campground, although it is adjacent to it.
Incidentally, there is a group of wild hot springs south of the Forest Service campground.

Please register at the store for day use.
It is a fairly large store where you can purchase food.

The bathhouse is the stone building.
Free for cabin guests, $20.00 for day visitors for all-day use.

There was a really small outdoor pool in an area surrounded by a fence in front of the bathhouse.

The hot spring analysis report was posted.
Six Small Rooms

The reception desk for massages was right inside the bathhouse.

There were six small rooms in the back right corner.
Four of these are shower rooms with thermal water.

Two of them were private bathrooms.
Available rooms could be used on a first-come, first-served basis.

A room with an old-fashioned cast iron tub.

The slightly cloudy water contained black precipitates.

This room had a tiled tub.
104 degrees F, no particular odor.

As a base for exploring wild hot springs, where you can sometimes get covered in mud, it is a blessing to be able to soak in clean hot water.
